Persistant Back Pain Natural Supplement
Persistant Back Pain Natural Supplement

Many people suffer from persistant back pain throughout their lives.  There are many problems that may lead to back pain, for example, sprains, muscle strains, minor injuries, or a pinched or irritated nerve.  These are all serious problems that may lead to back pain, however, there are also everyday activities that may lead to back pain.  Some of those activities are: bending awkwardly, lifting heavy object, pushing incorrectly, slouching in your chair, over-stretching, or driving for long periods without a break.

Back pain is known to affect 7 out of 10 people at some time in their lives.  Back pain is very common and is normally not that serious.  In most people it may last from a few days to a few weeks and then it will usually clear up, this type of back pain is called acute back pain.  However, if there is persistant back pain for more than 12 weeks it is called chronic back pain.  Chronic back pain is most commonly found in people between the ages of 35-55 years.  When chronic back pain flairs up it is important to seek medical advice to make sure there are no serious problems.

One serious problem that may cause back pain is the bulging or rupture or one or more of the intervertebral discs.  When this disk ruptures or bulges it causes the inner jelly-like material to press on the spinal cord or the nerve roots which run next to the disc.  Most people know this as “slipped disk”.  Most of the pain experienced with “slipped disc” is in the lower back but may move to the buttocks, thigh, calves and feet. This problem is most commonly found in the elderly because as you age your discs tend to weaken and dry out.

Another possible cause of persistant back pain is spinal degeneration or osteoarthritis. Degeneration of the spine are usually found in adults above the age of 50. It is caused by wear and tear from aging, injury/trauma, poor posture and/or infection, and symptoms include stiffness after sleep or pain from standing or walking.

Other anatomical causes of back pain are sciatica (a condition in which the sciatic nerve is irritated by a ruptured disc pressing on it and causes pain to travel from the back to the leg), spinal stenosis (a narrowing of the spinal canal), osteoporosis (loss of bone density and strength), skeletal irregularities (including scoliosis, kyphosis, lordosis, back extension, and back flexion), fibromyalgia, and spondylitis. There are also non-anatomical contributors of back pain such as stress, repressed anger, or depression.

However, in most cases of back pain the reason for the back pain is most often lifting or pushing something incorrectly.  In order to avoid causing back pain reduce stress and excess strains on your back.  A few other things to help avoid back pain are: lose excess weight, exercise regularly, sleep on a firm mattress, use correct lifting and pushing posture and avoid sudden movements or muscle strain.

If you are unsure of the cause of your back pain, a review of your medical history and a physical exam can help identify the causes. The following diagnostic methods can be used to confirm the causes: x-ray imaging (used to look for broken bones or injured vertebra), discography (injection of contrast dye used to see damaged areas on x-rays), computerized tomography or CT (2D slice computerized scans of the back), magnetic resonance image or MRI (2D or 3D scans of the body using radio waves inside a magnetic field that surrounds the body), electrodiagnostic procedures (including EMG, nerve conduction studies, and EP studies), bone scans (using radioactive material injected into the bloodstream), thermography (measuring of temperature changes in areas of the body), and ultrasound imaging (imaging using high-frequency sound waves).
